The DASH diet was created in an effort for helping alleviate and prevent rising cases of hypertension in the world. Created using the acronym DASH, Dietary Approaches for Stopping Hypertension is a widely accepted and recommended diet for those with heart related complications including but not limited to hypertension, heart disease, high cholesterol and high triglycerides.
This diet requires reduced dietary sodium intake, with a threshold of 1500mg a day…much lower than the average consumption level for most in today’s society. From packaged and processed foods to sauces and seasonings, the average person consumes well above this, so in order to reduce overall sodium intake, one must remove and/or reduce many of these items. The problem is that salt and adds flavor, and often times with lower sodium foods, there isn’t as much flavor, making them less appealing.
Ms. Dash was created to address this problem head-on by creating salt free seasonings to spice up your favorite dishes while cutting back on your total sodium intake. You can get as creative as you normally would with a wide array of seasonings, created to satisfy a variety of flavor preferences, all without breaking the sodium bank.
