Anavar is one of the most recognizable names in bodybuilding, and one of the most misunderstood. The question we hear most at the counter in our Fennimore store is some version of "Is this the real Anavar?"
The short answer is no. Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals Anavar does not contain oxandrolone, the prescription steroid originally sold under the Anavar name. It is an over-the-counter performance supplement with a multi-ingredient formula built around andro compounds, creatine, arginine and plant-derived muscle-support ingredients.
It has also been one of our best-selling prohormones, in our stores and online, for almost 15 years. This guide covers where the name comes from, what is actually in the bottle, and who we think it fits.
What Was the Original Anavar?
The original Anavar was a brand name for oxandrolone, a synthetic anabolic steroid introduced for medical use in the 1960s. Doctors prescribed it to help patients regain weight after extensive surgery, chronic infection or severe trauma, and in certain muscle-wasting conditions.
Oxandrolone became widely discussed in gyms because of its anabolic effects, but it was always a prescription drug and a Schedule III controlled substance, never a dietary supplement.
In June 2023, the FDA withdrew its approval of brand and generic oxandrolone tablets, citing safety concerns. Prescription oxandrolone is no longer an approved drug in the United States, which is one more reason the name on a supplement bottle should never be read as a description of what is inside it.
Is Hi-Tech Anavar Real Anavar?
That depends on what someone means by "real Anavar."
Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals sells this product under the Anavar trademark. It is not oxandrolone and should never be represented as pharmaceutical Anavar. It is a multi-ingredient performance formula for experienced adult lifters, combining:
- Andro and DHEA-derived compounds
- Creatine compounds
- Arginine and arginase inhibitors
- ATP and inosine
- Ecdysterone-related ingredients
- Botanical and absorption-support ingredients
- Hi-Tech's Extend-Rx controlled-release delivery technology
When customers ask us this question in person, we turn the bottle around and point to the Supplement Facts panel instead of the front label. That panel is the honest answer, and it is how anyone should judge this product.
What Is in Hi-Tech Anavar?
Each serving contains a 1,900 mg proprietary blend delivered with Extend-Rx controlled-release technology. The blend includes:
- 1-Androstenolone
- 4-Androstenolone
- Epiandrosterone
- Multiple DHEA ester forms
- Creatine nitrate
- Creatine HCl
- L-arginine HCl
- BEC and ABH (arginase inhibitors)
- Adenosine triphosphate (ATP)
- Inosine ethyl ester
- 5a-hydroxy laxogenin acetate
- 6-keto diosgenin acetate
- 20-hydroxyecdysone decanoate
- Naringin
- 6,7-dihydroxybergamottin
- Quebracho blanco
Because this is a proprietary blend, the label does not disclose the amount of each individual ingredient. The serving size is three tablets, with 60 servings in each 180-tablet bottle.
Manufacturers occasionally update formulas and directions, so always check the label on the bottle you receive.

How Is the Hi-Tech Anavar Formula Designed to Work?
Rather than relying on one compound, Hi-Tech Anavar combines several performance-support strategies in one formula.
Andro and Hormone-Related Compounds
1-Androstenolone, 4-Androstenolone, epiandrosterone and several DHEA esters form the hormone-related core of the formula. They are not oxandrolone, but they put Hi-Tech Anavar well beyond an ordinary creatine or natural testosterone-support product, which is why it is marketed to experienced adults rather than beginners.
Creatine, ATP and Workout Performance
Creatine nitrate and creatine HCl support muscular energy, strength and repeated high-intensity output. ATP is the immediate energy source muscles use during contraction, and inosine rounds out the performance side of the formula.
Arginine and Blood-Flow Support
Arginase is an enzyme that breaks down arginine. Pairing L-arginine with the arginase inhibitors BEC and ABH is intended to keep more arginine available for nitric oxide production, which supports blood flow and muscle pumps during training.
Ecdysterone and Plant-Derived Compounds
20-hydroxyecdysone decanoate, 6-keto diosgenin acetate and 5a-hydroxy laxogenin acetate are common in advanced muscle-support formulas. None of them replaces consistent training, enough calories, adequate protein and proper recovery.
What Is Extend-Rx Technology?
Extend-Rx is Hi-Tech's bead-based controlled-release system. According to the manufacturer, it protects certain compounds as they pass through the stomach and releases them gradually in the upper intestinal tract.
It is one of the features that separates Hi-Tech Anavar from simpler formulas that compress basic powdered ingredients into a standard tablet.
What Benefits Is Hi-Tech Anavar Designed to Support?
Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals markets Anavar to adult athletes looking to support:
- Muscular strength
- Workout intensity
- Lean-mass development
- Muscle protein synthesis
- Nitrogen retention
- Training performance
- Muscular energy and ATP production
- Muscle pumps and blood flow
Results vary considerably. Training quality, nutrition, sleep, genetics, experience and consistency all shape what someone gets out of it. Hi-Tech Anavar supplements a structured program. It does not replace one.
Who Is Hi-Tech Anavar For?
Hi-Tech Anavar is intended for adults 18 and older who understand advanced muscle-building supplements and already train and eat consistently.
The customer we usually sell it to has been lifting for several years, has run creatine and a good protein for a long time, and has hit a strength plateau they cannot push through with training changes alone. Most of them want strength and a harder, leaner look rather than raw size.
It may fit someone whose main goals include:
- Increasing strength
- Improving gym performance
- Supporting lean-muscle development
- Breaking through a training plateau
- Adding an advanced product to an established program
It is not appropriate for minors, for anyone pregnant or nursing, or for anyone who has been advised to avoid hormone-related supplements. If someone in the store tells us they are taking prescription medication or managing a health condition, we send them to their doctor before we sell them anything in this category. The same applies online: talk to a qualified healthcare professional first.
How Do You Take Hi-Tech Anavar?
The manufacturer's current directions call for three tablets in the morning and three tablets in the afternoon or evening. That is two servings and six tablets per day, so one 180-tablet bottle lasts 30 days at the full recommended amount.
Follow the directions on the product you receive and never exceed the manufacturer's recommended dose.

Does Hi-Tech Anavar Require Cycle Support or PCT?
This is the question we get asked most after "Is it real?"
Because the formula contains androstenolone, epiandrosterone and DHEA-derived compounds, we treat on-cycle support and post-cycle therapy (PCT) as part of the plan, not an optional extra. Planning both before the first dose is far easier than scrambling at the end of a cycle.
Most customers who buy Anavar from us pick up Hi-Tech Arimiplex PCT at the same time, so it is on hand when the cycle ends. You can see the full range of options in our PCT and organ support collection.
The right approach still depends on the individual, everything else in their stack, how long they run it and their health history. Review the full Supplement Facts panel and speak with a knowledgeable healthcare professional before starting any hormone-related supplement.
Hi-Tech Anavar vs. Other Prohormone Products
Hi-Tech Anavar is unusual because it pairs hormone-related ingredients with creatine, ATP, arginine, ecdysterone-related compounds and controlled-release delivery. Many other products take a more concentrated approach built around one primary andro compound.
The product customers most often weigh it against at our counter is Hi-Tech's own Halodrol. Shoppers who want a broad, all-in-one formula tend to land on Anavar.
When comparing advanced muscle-building options, consider:
- The complete ingredient panel
- Your training experience
- Your primary strength or muscle-building goal
- Whether the product uses a blend or a focused formula
- Suggested length of use
- The supporting products you will need
- Your personal tolerance and health history
You can compare the full lineup in the Suppz Prohormones and Andros collection.
Is Hi-Tech Anavar Good for Beginners?
No. It contains far more advanced ingredients than creatine, protein powder or a non-hormonal pre-workout.
When a newer lifter asks for Anavar by name, we usually walk them over to creatine and protein first and tell them to come back once they have trained consistently for a couple of years. Most of the people who skip that step end up disappointed, because no supplement can make up for an inconsistent program.
A beginner gets far more from progressive resistance training, enough protein, good sleep and creatine than from any advanced formula.
Is Hi-Tech Anavar the Same as a Steroid?
Hi-Tech Anavar is not prescription oxandrolone. It also should not be treated like a vitamin or an ordinary sports-nutrition product, because its formula includes hormone-related ingredients such as 1-Androstenolone, 4-Androstenolone, epiandrosterone and DHEA derivatives.
The most accurate way to evaluate it is to read the current ingredient panel and judge it by what it actually contains.
Where Can You Buy Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals Anavar?
Suppz carries authentic Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals Anavar in the 180-tablet size, online and in our retail stores.
Buying from an established supplement retailer means you get an authentic, properly stored product with a clearly identified manufacturer and a full Supplement Facts panel, plus someone you can actually ask questions before and after you buy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Hi-Tech Anavar contain oxandrolone?
No. Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals Anavar does not contain prescription oxandrolone. It is a separate performance supplement with its own multi-ingredient formula.
How long does one bottle of Hi-Tech Anavar last?
Each bottle holds 180 tablets, or 60 three-tablet servings. At the full recommended six tablets per day, one bottle lasts about 30 days.
Can women take Hi-Tech Anavar?
Because the product contains hormone-related ingredients, women should consult a qualified healthcare professional before considering it. It should not be used by anyone who is pregnant, nursing or may become pregnant.
Can Hi-Tech Anavar replace creatine?
Not reliably. The formula contains creatine nitrate and creatine HCl, but their amounts sit inside a proprietary blend and are not disclosed, so you cannot assume it delivers the same dose as a dedicated creatine supplement.
Is Hi-Tech Anavar a cutting or bulking product?
It is positioned as a lean-muscle, strength and performance formula rather than a mass gainer. Whether you gain or lose weight on it still depends mostly on calorie intake and training.
Can tested athletes use Hi-Tech Anavar?
No. DHEA is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's Prohibited List, and the formula contains several DHEA-derived and andro compounds. Anyone competing in a drug-tested sport should not use it.
Final Thoughts on Hi-Tech Anavar
Hi-Tech Anavar is not pharmaceutical oxandrolone, and anyone selling it as the "real thing" is misleading you. It is a broad, advanced performance formula that has earned its place on our shelves through repeat customers, not the name on the label.
My honest take after selling it for almost 15 years: it works best for experienced lifters who already have their training, diet and sleep dialed in, who plan their support and PCT before they start, and who expect a strength and performance boost, not a transformation. If that is not you yet, build the foundation first. Anavar will still be here.
